Astrocartography line distance: How close is close enough?

Astrocartography line distance tells you how far your planned destination sits from a calculated planetary line. A line that looks close on a world map may still be hundreds of kilometers away. Check City in Astrocartography Chart gives you the planet, angle and distance for that place, so you can check which line is nearest and how close it actually is. Our summary labels up to 120 km as Strong / close and includes nearby context out to 644 km. Those labels describe proximity; deciding whether the place fits your plans also needs its themes and cautions.

Measure a place on your own chart

Enter your birth date, time and birthplace. The full map opens below in its own area. Use Check City for a destination; keep your birthplace in the birth form.

An unknown birth time produces a provisional noon chart. Its distances depend on that assumption.

01 / From a colored line to a number

What astrocartography line distance measures

Check City uses a destination's coordinates and the lines calculated from your birth details. It measures the shortest geographic distance to each enabled line's calculated path, then sorts the local summary by proximity.

The useful answer is specific: which planet-angle line lies close to this place, and approximately how far away is it? A line that looks adjacent on a world map may be hundreds of kilometers away. The numeric result makes that difference visible without relying on line thickness, zoom level or a screenshot.

Astrocartography line distance belongs to the selected point, not an entire city boundary. Check City uses the location you select; choosing another point on the map can produce another distance. Confirm the place name and coordinates when two locations share a name or when a specific neighborhood matters.

The result is an approximation along calculated line geometry, displayed in rounded kilometers. Read it as proximity evidence, not street-level surveying. The calculation guide explains how birth details determine the lines before a destination is measured against them.

02 / The labels used in Check City

Five astrocartography line distance bands

These are the product's proximity categories. They organize the location reading and are not a scientifically established radius of influence. A boundary changes the label used by the tool; it does not establish an abrupt change in your experience.

Astrocartography line distance, label and reading consequence
DistanceLabel in the resultHow to use it
0–120 kmStrong / closeStart with this line's planet-angle meaning in Check City. Keep its themes beside the distance as an anchor for the local reading.
Over 120–250 kmNearbyKeep this line in the local reading even when the place is visibly off its path. You do not need to move the destination pin onto the line to examine its theme.
Over 250–400 kmBroadTreat this as wider context. Check what closer signals say before allowing this one planetary theme to define the whole destination.
Over 400–644 kmWide contextThis is the outer part of the usual summary range. It can appear alongside a much closer line, so a shared place in the list does not imply equal proximity.
Over 644 kmWeakWhen no enabled line falls inside the usual range, the summary can show the closest distant lines as background. Their presence does not turn them into close signals.

Each upper boundary is included in its band. The label uses the underlying distance, while the card rounds the number for display. Near a boundary, the displayed whole kilometer can look the same on either side. That small labeling difference is not evidence of a decisive life change.

Rome: one city, four different proximities

This astrocartography line distance example uses a synthetic birth profile: 1990-06-15 at 08:15 local time in New York, United States (America/New_York). The destination is Rome at 41.9028° N, 12.4964° E. It illustrates the calculation, not a customer's experience or a recommendation to move.

Being in the same list does not mean being equally close

Check City identifies Uranus IC as the closest of these signals at 71 km. Mars DS is about 286 km away; Neptune IC and Jupiter MC fall in Wide context. The personal answer is a hierarchy of proximity: the 620 km Jupiter entry should not be mistaken for a line running through Rome merely because it appears beside Uranus in the summary.

Astrocartography line distance also keeps two IC signals distinct. The Check City card for Uranus IC pairs freedom, reinvention, disruption and change with the IC themes of home, roots, inner life and emotional foundations. At 71 km, this is the closer home-related signal. Use those themes to ask how much independence or change you want in your private life.

The Neptune IC card pairs dreams, intuition, creativity and ambiguity with those same IC themes. At 416 km, it supplies wider context. A question to bring to this reading is which hopes for a home are clear and which expectations need checking. Check City supplies the themes and distances; these questions help you apply them to your priorities. The Home line guide connects IC evidence to the broader question of settling down.

What happens when you hide a planet?

Keep the birth profile and coordinates fixed. Recheck Rome after changing only the planet filters.

Hide Uranus

Mars DS becomes the first entry at about 286 km. Neptune IC and Jupiter MC retain their distances. Astrocartography line distance stays unchanged for these remaining entries: hiding Uranus changes the shortlist, without moving any line or improving Mars's proximity.

Show only the Sun

No Sun line falls within 644 km of this Rome point. The background entries are Sun MC at 1,329 km and Sun IC at 5,402 km, both Weak. The no-close-lines message describes the Sun-only view; it does not erase the close Uranus signal in the full chart.

04 / Three results that mean different things

Read an empty or distant result correctly

An astrocartography line distance result depends on both geography and visibility. Check City and the planet filters help distinguish a sparse local pattern from a deliberately narrowed or empty view.

Close lines are listed

Check City · Nearby line summary

With your birth chart and selected city, Check City lists the nearest enabled lines within the usual 644 km range when any are present. It does not add lines beyond that range to fill the list. Each entry gives the planet, angle, kilometer distance and proximity label, so you can distinguish a close signal from wider context within the range.

Read the planet-angle themes before assigning importance. The summary is a shortlist, not an inventory: the standard panel shows up to four entries, with fewer in compact layouts. An omitted line is not proof that it does not exist on the chart.

No close lines in the usual summary range

Check City · Distant background context

When no enabled line falls within the usual 644 km range, the summary can show up to two nearest available lines with Weak labels. Astrocartography line distance tells you that this list supplies distant context rather than evidence of a close line.

Check the active planet filters before concluding that the place has few close signals. If you had narrowed the view to one planet, the result answers that narrower question. A sparse proximity list is not a verdict that the destination is empty, unsuitable or free of challenges.

No visible planet lines

Planet filters · Hidden map state

When every planet is hidden, there are no enabled lines to measure against. That is a display state. It supplies no evidence about how far the city lies from the lines in your complete chart. Turning on a planet restores the corresponding distance check.

Use Show All when you want the broadest map view, then narrow it deliberately. Compare results using the same birth details, destination and filters; otherwise a changed shortlist can look like a changed calculation.

05 / Three checks for your destination

Check astrocartography line distance for the city you have in mind

Keep the same destination throughout these checks. You should finish knowing which enabled line is nearest, how the listed distances differ and whether your filters left anything out.

  1. 01

    Identify the nearest enabled line

Open Check City for your intended destination and confirm the selected location. Read the first entry's full planet-angle label and kilometer distance. The summary orders enabled lines by proximity, so this identifies the closest available line for that point. Its position at the top does not mean it is the most supportive line for your plans.

  2. 02

Compare the distances within this city's list

Read each listed distance with its proximity label. This is where astrocartography line distance helps you separate a close signal from broader context at the same destination. Keep each number attached to its planet and angle; then use the location reading's themes and cautions to explore what those signals could mean for your reason for going there. The map reading tutorial shows how to bring local evidence together.

  3. 03

Check whether filters changed the answer

If the list is sparse or a line you expected is missing, note which planets are enabled. Use Show All and check the same city again to consider every planet when calculating proximity. A new first entry means the selection changed; the remaining lines have not moved. Distinguish a Weak-only result from an empty result caused by hiding every planet before concluding that the destination has no close lines. The summary is a short list, so an unlisted line is not necessarily hidden or absent.

Have several destinations to choose between?

After checking astrocartography line distance for each candidate, Compare Cities lets you evaluate those places for a selected goal. Its support and cautions help you examine a specific trade-off, such as which city better supports Home or Career. The Where to live guide explains how to weigh that shortlist alongside housing, employment and the life you want.

Questions / Reading the limits

Astrocartography line distance questions

How close to a line do I need to be?

In this product, 120 km or less receives the Strong / close label, and the usual nearby summary extends to 644 km. Use Check City to see the actual astrocartography line distance for your destination. These are reading categories, not a requirement to live inside a particular radius. The planet-angle meaning and your purpose still matter when deciding what to investigate.

How far from a line is too far?

Beyond 644 km, the summary classifies a line as Weak and may show it as distant background when no enabled line is closer. That makes it a limited basis for a close-line interpretation in this tool. It does not establish a universal point where an astrological influence turns off, or tell you that a city beyond that distance cannot suit your life.

Does astrocartography line distance change when I zoom?

Zooming changes the map scale, not the selected coordinates or calculated line geometry. For the same birth chart and destination, the measured distance stays the same. Selecting a different point while zoomed in can change it. Use Check City or confirm the location coordinates to distinguish a scale change from a change in the place being measured.

Why does hiding a planet change the nearest line?

Planet filters change which lines enter the location summary. Hiding Uranus in the Rome example removes the 71 km Uranus IC entry, leaving Mars DS first at about 286 km. Mars has not moved closer. Astrocartography line distance belongs to a particular place-line pair; the first entry belongs to the currently enabled set of lines.

Is astrocartography line distance driving distance?

No. It is an approximate geographic distance from the selected coordinates to the calculated line path. It does not follow roads, count travel time or identify an accessible point you can visit. An ocean, border or mountain may lie between the selected place and the nearest part of the line. Plan a real journey separately.

Can I trust a precise distance without an exact birth time?

A precise-looking number still depends on the birth input. The unknown-time option uses a provisional noon chart; it does not recover the actual time. A different birth time can change the lines and the destination's proximity labels. Treat that astrocartography line distance as provisional, and confirm the record before making a decision that depends on one close signal.

Does the closest line identify my best city?

No. The proximity summary orders geometric distances, not the quality of a future home, relationship or career. Read the planet and angle, then use the location reading for themes and cautions. If you have realistic alternatives, Compare Cities adds goal-specific support and caution. That answers a different question from which line passes nearest to a destination.
